Spinosad comes from a soil bacterium, not a synthetic chemical process, and it works by overstimulating the insect's nervous system through a site that's different from older insecticide classes. That means it can still work on pests that have already developed resistance to other chemistries.
It acts on contact and by ingestion, so caterpillars feeding on treated leaves pick it up either way, and affected pests stop feeding within hours.

Spinosad is genuinely one of the more selective options in this class, it's much easier on parasitic wasps and other natural enemies than a broad-spectrum pyrethroid or organophosphate would be, which matters if you're running any kind of IPM program alongside biological control. It is toxic to bees while spray residue is still wet, so apply in the evening once pollinators have stopped foraging, and by the time it's dried the risk to bees is very low.
Still rotate with a different mode of action group rather than using it as your only caterpillar product across the season.
